The Oakland A’s agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodriguez and outfielder Josh Reddick on one-year contracts for the 2016 season, the club announced today.
Reddick compiled his best numbers in 2015 since his first season with the A’s in 2012, batting .272 with 20 home runs and 77 RBI in 149 games. He had a career-high .333 on-base percentage and his batting average was his best as an Athletic. The 28-year-old left-handed hitter had the second best totals of his career in nearly every other offensive category including home runs and RBI, and struck out just 65 times and for a career best ratio of 8.95 plate appearances per strikeout. Reddick led the A’s in home runs, RBI, slugging percentage (.449), total bases (236) and extra base hits (49).
Rodriguez started the year at Triple-A Nashville and logged a 2.81 ERA and .143 opponents batting average in 10 games before he was promoted to Oakland May 7. He spent the balance of the season with the A’s and went 4-2 with a 3.84 ERA and .200 opponents batting average in 56 relief appearances. The 31-year-old right-hander allowed 4-of-30 (13.3%) inherited runners to score, which tied for the lowest percentage in the American League (Cedeno, TB). Rodriguez also ranked third in the AL in opponents on-base percentage against first batters (.179), fourth in slugging percentage (.189) and tied for fifth in batting average (.132).
The A’s have now agreed to terms with all arbitration eligible players on their roster.
