Last Game vs. Houston Dynamo
Earthquakes 3, Houston Dynamo 1; May 11, 2016; Avaya Stadium, San Jose, California The San Jose Earthquakes defeated the Houston Dynamo 3-1 at Avaya Stadium behind a trio of goals from Panamanian midfielders Alberto Quintero (two) and Anibal Godoy (one). Forward Chris Wondolowski tallied a pair of assists, marking his second career multi-assist game. The Earthquakes took the lead less than three minutes into the match. Receiving a feed from Dawkins, Wondolowski sent a low cross to Quintero, who got just enough on the ball to slip it past Houston goalkeeper Tyler Deric. Houston leveled just before halftime on a long-range strike by midfielder Ricardo Clark. Defender Agus took a shot that was punched out of the box by Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham. The loose ball fell to Clark, who drilled a one-timer into the corner of the net. The Quakes retook the lead five minutes into the second half. Quintero and Godoy, who are also teammates on the Panama National Team, combined on a give-and-go, sending Godoy in alone on the keeper. He calmly slotted his left-footed strike into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. San Jose doubled their advantage in the 70th minute. Shielding his defender from the ball with his back to goal, Wondolowski found Quintero unmarked at the back post. Quintero quickly redirected the pass goal-ward and into the net. Houston went down to 10 men in the 79th minute, when Deric impeded Dawkins' path to a loose ball. Having already used all three substitutes, defender Jalil Anibaba stepped in to play the final 11 minutes in goal.

History of the Quakes - Houston Dynamo Rivalry The history of the Earthquakes-Dynamo rivalry pre-dates their first meeting on the field, as the original San Jose Earthquakes moved to Houston following the 2005 season, with MLS eventually returning to San Jose in 2008 ... The first meeting between the two clubs came on May 22, 2008, when the Earthquakes edged the Dynamo, 2-1, at Buck Shaw Stadium on the strength of second-half goals by Kei Kamara and Ivan Guerrero ... On Sept. 13, 2008, the Earthquakes and Dynamo battled to the lone tie in the all-time series between the two clubs, a 1-1 draw at Buck Shaw Stadium ... Later that season on Oct. 15, the Dynamo handed the Earthquakes a 2-1 defeat at Robertson Stadium ... In 2009, the Earthquakes and Dynamo split the season series, with the Earthquakes winning 3-2 at Buck Shaw on March 28, and the Dynamo earning a 3-1 victory on May 23 at Robertson ... Houston returned the favor with a 1-0 decision at Buck Shaw on Oct. 16, 2010 ... On June 4, 2011, San Jose earned a 2-0 home victory, the second-half goals coming from Steven Lenhart and Simon Dawkins ... At the end of 2011, the Dynamo produced a come-from-behind 2-1 win in Houston on Sept. 17 ... Earthquakes head coach Dominic Kinnear coached the Houston Dynamo for nine seasons from 2006 to 2014 ... Earthquakes Tie 1-1 with Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium

Wondolowski scores eighth goal of the season, 113th for Earthquakes

Salt Lake City - The San Jose Earthquakes tied Real Salt Lake 1-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium Friday night in their first encounter of the season. Chirs Wondolowski gave the Quakes an early lead, but the home side came back to equalize the game in the second half. With the result, San Jose remains in eighth in the Western Conference.
Wondolowski gave the Quakes the advantage nine minutes into the first half scoring the Quakes' first goal of the season from a corner. The forward sent the ball into the back of the net after Simon Dawkins' cross took a deflection off a Salt Lake defender and landed at the

Quakes' forward's feet.
The goal marked Wondolowski's 113th goal for the Quakes and as a result, the forward surpassed Landon Donovan and moved into second place all time in MLS history for goals scored for one club.

After conceding early, Real Salt Lake looked to equalize. In the 16th minute, Quakes' keeper David Bingham saved a long shot from Real Salt Lake's captain Kyle Beckerman, but forward Joao Plata raced for the rebound. Bingham made a diving save to deny the scoring opportunity.
The first half ended 1-0 with the Quakes heading back to the locker room having out-shot Salt Lake 8-6. With the start of the second half, the team looked to extend the lead. Quincy Amarikwa had an early chance on goal, but his shot from Cordell Cato's cross went just wide of Nick Rimando's goal.
In the 64th minute, Luke Mulholland found Salt Lake's equalizer when he capitalized on Javier Morales' chip and volleyed a shot past Bingham.

With the score even, both teams looked to walk away with three points. Bingham came to the rescue in the 72nd minute making a vital save against Real Salt Lake's Olmes Garcia in a 1v1 situation. The Quakes also came close to taking the lead in the 79th minute when Shea Salina's shot hit the cross bar in the 80th minute.
After several last minute attempts in which Bingham made important saves to keep the score even, the game ended 1-1 and both teams walked away with a point.
San Jose Earthquakes will host MLS All-Star game on Thursday, July 28 at Avaya Stadium as the best of MLS take on Arsenal from the English Premier League. The All-Star team is lead by the Earthquakes' head coach Dominic Kinnear and features Bingham and Wondolowski.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR
On building momentum from tonight's result:
"Yes and no. Yes because we scored the first goal. I thought we were playing well and then at the end of the game we were kinda hanging on. They maybe think that they could have got three points, I think at times with Shea (Salinas) hitting the cross bar at the end there and the couple chances we had we could have scored another goal. That is the way the game went and I am pretty happy with the guys. Great effort for tonight."
On the team's away record:
"The next game is on the road as well. It's not like we are not trying to win, we scored the first goal tonight, I thought we looked positive and aggressive as the game was going. Tough life on the road. We have a Western Conference opponent coming up and we've got more Western Conference games, so those are some big swings in points there. If you can pick up a win on the road it is going to be good for you. I think it just breeds confidence in the whole team as well."
On if the team is close to their first away win:
"The one before this was against Chicago and I don't think we played particularly well, but tonight was better. We've been competitive in all the games and we haven't been run off the field. Tonight, like I said, we could be sitting here talking about a win and we're talking about a tie. We're close. It would be nice to get that one."

EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER DAVID BINGHAM
On the result:
"It's disappointing to go up 1-0 and come out with a draw, but at the end of the day it is always good to get points on the road and we have to keep building to keep picking up points throughout the year."
On Real Salt Lake's Goal:
"We know (Javier) Morales is a good player and he sees things that other players don't. He saw (Luke) Mulholland come through, was able to get it on his foot and Mulholland was able to strike it clean. It's a bit unfortunate but credit to the guys no one dropped their heads. We kept fighting for the entire 90 minutes which is important."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD CHRIS WONDOLOWSKI
On goal:
"Right place, right time. It was a good ball by Simon (Dawkins). Jordan Stewart got a head on it and just skimmed it a little bit.  It deflected off someone and bounced right to me and I was able to finish. If we had more of a killer instinct in the first half and got a second goal, that would have changed the game. We had some chances, but we just didn't finish them."
On getting road wins:
"We have to stay the course on the road. We had a lot of positives tonight, but we had a few lapses here and there and that cost us. When we put a full 90 minutes together, that's when we will get a win. Right now, we will put 60-70 minutes together but not a full game and we are not getting the results we want. Credit to Salt Lake though, they are a good team and they played well tonight."

Nine-Man Earthquakes Stun Toronto FC 2-1 at Avaya Stadium

Quakes earn team's first-ever victory playing with nine men

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Toronto FC 2-1 at Avaya Stadium Saturday night despite playing with nine men for most of the second half. Forward Quincy Amarikwa's first half goal and midfielder Simon Dawkins' late strike earned the Quakes their first victory since May 11 when they defeated Houston Dynamo 3-1 at home.

The Quakes nearly took an early lead in the seventh minute after Dawkins worked his way into the Toronto box and sent a shot heading towards Alex Bono's goal. The ball took a deflection off forward Chris Wondolowski and into the net, but the Quakes' captain was called offside.

After end-to-end exchanges, San Jose nearly struck again in the 26th minute. Defender Shaun Francis sent a pass to the far post and Amarikwa attempted a diving header that was saved by Bono. The ensuing attempt on the rebound by the Quakes was headed clear over the crossbar by a Toronto FC defenseman.

Four minutes later, the Earthquakes' persistence in Toronto's half gave the home side a 1-0 advantage. Midfielder Fatai Alashe sent a low cross finding Amarikwa at the top of the six-yard box who one-touched the ball past Bono.

Two former Earthquakes players helped Toronto FC equalize just before the half. After San Jose was reduced to 10 men following an Anibal Godoy red card, defender Steven Beitashour sent a cross that found fellow defender Justin Morrow who tapped the ball past goalkeeper David Bingham.

Despite going down to nine men early in the second half after Alberto Quintero was shown the red card in the 53rd minute, the Earthquakes took the lead in the 70th minute. After Cato's feed, Dawkins weaved his way through Toronto FC's defenders and fired a beautifully placed long-distance shot in the top right corner to put the Quakes ahead 2-1.

With Toronto FC pressing on their end late in the second half, Bingham made several clutch saves to help clinch the Earthquakes a hard-fought win at home.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On confidence gained from a win like this:

"It definitely can be a turning point and I told the guys that. That just shows you the attitude you have. Obviously things were against us at different times of the evening, but the attitude was fantastic and I said that should be our attitude every game, no matter what. So hopefully it's a sign of good things to come. We scored some real good goals tonight, defended well. But the guys were fantastic. David [Bingham] coming out catching crosses, blocking shots, bouncing balls in the box, everybody was alert to it and they just really wanted it a lot tonight and I'm happy for them."

On what he told his team after the game:

"See you on Monday, that's a great win. Talk to you later. Way to go. We talked at halftime because the guys were really upset about the first red card and felt we were a little hard done by. I think we lost our focus and they got the goal. I just told them here at the half, 'Hey, just stick together.' We set up our formation the way it is, just gave the guys certain hints about the roles we want them to play and you just kind of hope it goes - usually when you play with 10 men you're going to need more defending but you're going to need that little bit of individual magic I think most of the time, or a set piece, to win you the game. And obviously Simon's [Dawkins] play tonight was fantastic for us."

On managing such an eventful game:

"You don't want to get too bent out of shape about what's going on. So you just try to keep the guys going, just keep encouraging them - 1-1, halftime, it's like, okay, if it's 1-1 I think we'll be okay. Obviously when Simon [Dawkins] scores you want to get a little bit greedy and go, okay, can we win this game 2-1 with nine guys? So it was just make sure the ball turns over, you get behind the ball, you get good shape. I don't know how it looked on the sideline with me and my demeanor, but I definitely was dying inside."

On the team's impressive defensive performance:

"It's just that. The amount of possession the other team had, the amount of shifting you had to do. It was a real difficult game, and you're playing a pretty good team, too. And even though yes they did play on Wednesday, I think the red card gives them a little more confidence and momentum going into the second half and they have that little magician that plays up top for them. He's such a good player, so you want to try and make sure you limit his moments on the ball. It's difficult. The second half seemed to last about six hours. Especially after Alberto [Quintero] got sent off. And you're just willing them to win and I think the thing was, they were willing themselves to win, which was even better."

On how Simon Dawkins' goal lifted the team's spirits:

"Not just the team, but the entire stadium. That was maybe the loudest I've heard this place. And I think it really made the fans go from being mad to being really hopeful. You could feel the sense of the stadium and everybody just the attitude change by Simon's goal. He's scored two goals for us this year and both of them have been fantastic, so I hope that continues for him and for us."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER SIMON DAWKINS

On winning the match with only nine men:
"I think it was just our hard work and our teamwork. The season hasn't gone our way in terms of luck and some results have gone against us. Today, you could see [this match] meant a lot to us. We stuck in there, even with nine men. That just shows the good players we have here and the team spirit we possess. We are really happy with the win."

On the game winning goal

"Cordell [Cato] played the ball to me and I thought we weren't going to get many more chances, down two men. I felt that if I could just have a go, take a shot on target you never know what could happen. Thankfully it went in."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER VICTOR BERNARDEZ

On team's response after second red card: "The team's mentality was strong. We knew we still had a chance to win this game we had to have. We took advantage of our chances tonight. Luck was also our on side, which is something we did not get last week. We still have work to do and we need to take care of business on Friday against a tough Real Salt Lake team."

On losing Godoy and Quintero for next match

"It's unfortunate, but we have depth. We have guys who we can play. You look at Matias [Perez Garcia] who has a chance to help this team once again. We are still enjoying tonight. We know it was improbable and we want to continue with good play."
