Diego Colorado volvió a ganar

Diego Colorado volvió a ganar

HOUSTON, Texas – The San Jose Earthquakes fell 2-0 against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. The result extended Houston’s home-unbeaten streak to 34 games in all competitions, tying an MLS record.

Despite the loss, two Earthquakes players hit career milestones. MLS original Ramiro Corrales made his 300th career appearance while forward Chris Wondolowski made his 100th career start with the club.

The Dynamo changed the game early thanks to a tap-in finish from Will Bruin. Honduran winger Boniek Garcia created the chance with a cross that picked the second-year forward out at the top of the 6-yard box, allowing for an easy finish in front of the frame in the 17th minute.

Giles Barnes capped the scoring in the 42nd minute. The British striker and midfielder Brad Davis were perfectly in synch for the goal, Davis lofting a cross into the box that found Barnes in stride for the header.

Of note for San Jose, forward Alan Gordon made his first appearance of 2013, subbing on for Shea Salinas in the 68th minute. The target man was second on the team with 13 goals and seven assists in 2012. He missed the Earthquakes’ first four games while continuing to rehab from offseason surgery on his left foot.

San Jose returns to action on Saturday, April 6 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Buck Shaw Stadium. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PT on Comcast SportsNet California, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KZSF.

TOTAL SHOTS: 10; SHOTS ON GOAL: 1; SAVES: 5; FOULS: 9; OFFSIDES: 4; CORNER KICKS: 4.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FRANK YALLOP

Thoughts on the match:
“It’s disappointing to lose the match. I think we didn’t start well at all. We conceded an early goal, which put us on our heels. If we don’t concede the second one before halftime we still have a chance to get back in the match. I think the second half display was a lot better than first, but we had some good chances to score and we didn’t. I think Houston played well tonight. I take nothing away from those guys.”

On going up against Houston’s home unbeaten streak:
“We knew they’re a good team at home. It’s not an easy place to come play. Again, I take nothing away from Houston; it has nothing to do with our preparation or what they are doing. We just have to try and win the match. We weren’t ready to compete for the first half hour and we got punished for it, but I think the positive for us was the emergence of Alan Gordon in the second half. I think he changed the game completely for us. If he would have been on from the start, it might have been different. That being said, you can’t take anything away from Houston.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD CHRIS WONDOLOWSKI

Thoughts on the match:
“Houston played well. They came out and put us in a hole early. Especially playing here, if you put yourself in a hole, it makes it a lot harder to play. I thought we came out in the second half and showed a lot of fight. We were pressing for a goal. To be honest, if did get one maybe in the middle of the second half, we make it a game, but we couldn’t quite find that final touch; I hit a cross bar, missed one across the six… it was just one of those games.”

On missing key players:
“I feel very confident in my team no matter who is out there. We are just trying to bide our time and wait for the guys to get healthy. We feel that any 11 guys that we throw out there, we are going to try to win that game and we feel we have that ability to win the game. It’s always disappointing when you don’t get the result you want, but it is nice to look on the horizon and see a lot of healthy bodies coming back.”

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER JON BUSCH

Thoughts on the match
“In the second half, our competition level was much better. We worked, we tried to get back into it and that’s all you can ask. We did some very good things tonight. We get back home next weekend and we’ll get it right [at Buck Shaw Stadium].”

On dealing with injuries
“We have enough depth in our team regardless of who is on the field to get points. Sure it’s nice to see those guys who have been injured on the horizon, but we live in the present, we live in the here and now. There is a reason why this team is built by John [Doyle] and Frank [Yallop] to be so deep. We just concentrate on who is on the field.”
